  1. Summary

The crown murdered Simon Petrikov. Not in the literal sense, of course, but the Simon before the war and the Simon after share little more than appearance. All that’s left is to play-act at normalcy, and he wasn’t even good at that when he still felt human. He might as well be a caricature of himself.

Turns out spending a millennia in a fugue state leaves you with some major baggage. Who would have thought?

    Summary

Li raced back to the fight, swords out and ready, not bothering to replace his mask.

“Zuko!” came the exclamations, and Sokka felt offended on his behalf. Li was nothing like Zuko.

“Honestly, Lala,” Li rolled his eyes. “I thought you could tell my brother and me apart by now.”

“Well, you're both equally useless,” Azula said, “How am I supposed to know the difference?”

Li gave a long-suffering sigh. “Zuko’s scar is on the other side, Lala!”

    ***

Or: Zuko convinces the Gang he'd his own twin brother Part 3 - Aang has to tell Li and Azula about Zuko's death at the North Pole; and Azula and Zuko bond over playing horrible pranks.

    Summary

    Things Azula is surprised by:
    - her father's death at Zuko's hands (however supposedly inadvertent)

Things Azula is not surprised by:
    - Zuko's complete and utter lack of a plan afterwards

(Zuko's aim on the Day of Black Sun is a little off. Ozai gets struck by his own lightning. Azula grudgingly takes care of the rest.)

love this characterization of azula as both practical an incredibly out of pocket. her and zuko’s dynamic here is brilliant, and i highly recommend

    Summary

Simon asks her what immortality feels like on a crisp autumn evening, as she’s replacing the strings on her bass. He’s had a white streak in his hair and crow’s feet for years, but his knees are still strong enough to crouch in the dirt and look at bugs with his microscope on one of Bonnie’s many terrifying expeditions. He’s outlived both Finn and Jake, and she can tell that it’s starting to irk him.

She leans back against the wind, floating a little above the ground, the question pounding in her head like the time that Finn had asked her what a lifetime of achievement meant and she’d had to swallow down everything but her own tongue as she answered.

“I guess it’s a little bit like an endless summer vacation,” she says, snapping off another string with a clawed hand, “Yeah, that’s it.”

Post-Canon, Simon and Marceline talk about immortality, family and everything else. Most of the talking happens in Marceline's head.

    Summary

The ending was always the same.

If she could go back, she would. She told Bonnie as much—how many times, she wasn’t sure. Not that it mattered; she never believed her.

On lucid days—when her memory skittered straight—Marceline could remember. Moments. Flashes. They came to her, begging. One in particular, always.
