    Summary

Heaven always expected the new gospels to tell the story of the End. But when divine revelation at last inspires Charlie Bradbury, the Holy Prophetess of God, an entirely different scripture emerges. It tells of a young archangel's disobedience, of compassion in the bloodiest depths of Hell, and of a hunter who dares say 'no' when all Creation would compel him to say 'yes'.

The Novak Gospels aren't what anyone expected, but then the archangel Samael was never supposed to reshape Gabriel Novak's ruined body from dust and breathe into it new life. (Part 1: The Novak Gospels/ Part 2: The Oathkeeper's Psalm)

    -------

In a place far from where the Novak Gospels were written, in another universe unimaginably far away, there is another Samael and another Gabriel who find themselves as caught up in the apocalypse as everyone else. But here the End has come and gone, and the angels have fled the universe altogether, leaving heaven shut tight, and the earth in ruin. But when a universe-jumping archangel named Samael stumbles upon this dying world, he realizes he must find a way to undo all the misery which has been wrought... just as soon as he can stand, that is. Summary

Arthur knows he's dying, can feel the unstoppable pull of it, feels the spirit appear behind him to take him along. And yet, he finds he does not want to die. There is so much that went wrong, so much he regrets and he wishes, with all his being, he could change it. Could at least ensure those that managed to get away really make it out alive.

A second chance, he asks, begs, really. Just give me the chance to save them.

The being behind him pauses and Arthur can't look away from the moment he's frozen in, staring at the dark mountainside, aching to see the sun rise just one more time.

One chance, the spirit seems to whisper, voice satin soft. Make the most of it.

He opened his eyes to a gradient of green and a lingering feeling that something was wrong.

A sound to his left make his ear flick - he pushed down another spike of panic. Since when did his ears flick in the direction of sounds? - and he levered himself off the ground, pulling himself up with the help of a nearby tree root. He didn't know where he was, didn't know who, or what, was out there. It wasn't safe to just hang about in the open, not with-

Not with what? The thought teased at him, slipping out of his mind like smoke between fingers every time he tried to remember. Not with what?

    Summary

Arthur stared at the flighty young man for a moment. Kieran sat on a log, scrubbing a saddle with nervous glances in every direction. Fresh off the tree three weeks ago and still side-eyeing everyone. Arthur couldn't blame him. If he was in Kieran's position, he'd be afraid to even close his eyes for a moment. The man was too nervous to really gage how he would react to being approached by the same man who'd thrown him on the back of his horse and had threatened to break every bone in his body. He remembered how the O'Driscoll tried to reason with him to let him go, that he wouldn't say anything, he'd keep quiet. But Arthur knew better. O'Driscolls were notorious for betraying people, breaking promises. He knew that firsthand.
Arthur ran a hand down his face, the stubble of his chin scratching his hand. So why was he even contemplating bringing Kieran with him?
