At times, it seemed like all they did was no more than a single raindrop of hope in an ocean of despair and chaos, but together all those raindrops had evidently helped. Copley had captured it all, the last one hundred and fifty years of their lives condensed down into a few dozen photos and newspaper clippings. It seemed so small, and yet, all encompassing at the same time.
Kind of like how a declaration of love in a van during an abduction had condensed down all nine hundred and twenty years of an epic romance into a few hundred words. It seemed an impossible feat, but then, his Yusuf was just the kind of guy to pull it off.

Gordie and Piers barely recognized one another's existence outside of the arena. It was only when a lost brother and a lost Zigzagoon were accidentally found did they finally truly notice one another. It wasn't long before they realized just how much they could help each other with their hectic lives and daily pressures. Then something more began to develop.
Piers never once thought of Gordie as anything more than competition, but the more time he spent with him the more curious he grew. After all, rocks often had sharp, jagged edges. There was no telling what was hiding behind Gordie's sweet laugh. Perhaps it was something just as sweet or, as Piers preferred, perhaps there was something darker lurking inside.
With their curiosity and affection for each other growing, and between teasing from Leon and Raihan, Gordie and Piers finally learned to call each other friends.
If only they dared to call each other more than that.
