Cristabel had explained it. Mercy had been asked to relinquish her body—her necromantic inclination, too, though she had already thrown that rule to the dogs at the earliest possible convenience—to Pyrrha Dve, who was going to somehow, in some perverted way, make a point about devotion that Mercy had not already considered and put into practice a hundred times over. Mercy, of course, doubted this very much.
