Those are some of the first words Ajax, starving college student extraordinaire, has the misfortune of hearing upon waking up in a brave new world from what he's fairly sure is a very, very fatal accident involving water and a shit ton of electricity.
Okay, so he's not dead. That's good. But what's this about him being stuck playing the character Tartaglia? Tartaglia, as in the shitty, one-dimensional, cartoonish villain who met his untimely, gruesome death in the first act of the original game?
Fuck that noise. Like hell Ajax is going to share that fate.
And so begins one man's journey to unfuck himself.

"You know my secret, huh?" Childe's smile is sly.
"You're not an adventurer at all. You want something entirely different from me."
"And what is that?" he murmurs, leaning closer, close enough for Zhongli to smell the wintermint on his clothes and see every fleck of gold in his red hair. His hand is inches away from Zhongli's.
He returns the smile, polite and perfunctory. "You're a mercenary. An assassin, if you prefer."In a version of Teyvat where the commoners don't know of monsters or magic, a few specialized funeral parlours are tasked with covering up monster-related deaths to keep the reality of the world secret. Not all adventurers are happy with this, but a little persuasion and a lot of Mora can go a long way.
Though Zhongli might be lacking in Mora, he isn't lacking in persuasion, and he is the Wangsheng Funeral Parlour's number one choice for winning over any skeptics. In what seems to be an ordinary day at work onboarding new adventurers, a certain Snezhnayan redhead takes an unusual interest in him.
(In which Zhongli and Childe go to what Childe thinks is a date and Zhongli thinks is an assassination plot.)

Summary
It’s been two months since the storm, and Childe hasn’t seen Zhongli not even once, not since that fateful meeting with the Signora where the truth is finally unveiled.
And what a fun little kick to the gut that is, the realization that not only had he been played by all sides, but he's also being tossed aside like trash now that his use had run its course.
It’s not that Childe doesn’t get it. He’s a Harbinger. He knows first-hand what it means to do his duty, to put the mission first and his personal feelings far, far away, preferably locked up in a box, where it wouldn’t interfere with his job. He knows what it’s like working with vipers, to scheme and plot and lie in wait for the opportune moment to stab his opponent in the back.
But this time, this time Childe can’t help but feel a little (a lot) gutted.
Stupid. He’s gotten himself stupidly attached.
