Summary
It would be so easy. To reach for him, pull him close, to come up with some vague rationalization that would let them stumble down the street and up the stairs to Miles' apartment and into bed as if they only existed in this moment and the responsibilities they both shouldered were only far off ideas and not inevitable realities. All it would take is one step forward.
Miles nearly takes it. Only the thought of what would come next stops him, and it is a very near thing.
—
Six times they come together. One time Miles comes home.
Set across canon, from the end of Rise From The Ashes to the beginning of Dual Destinies. Mostly takes place during the seven year gap. (Will be around 75-80k)

Summary
"Really? This is your ugliest sweater?"
"It is an unflattering color." Miles says.
Okay, Phoenix does have to give him that. As if Miles couldn't wear puke green and still set Phoenix's heart aflutter like a Victorian maiden with the vapors, or something.
"And it is - bulky," Miles adds.
"Uh huh," Phoenix says. "Mine lights up. And there's a yeti on it that's saying 'Yeti To Party'."
"Yes," Miles says dryly. "I did, in fact, notice that."

Summary
Miles Edgeworth is a logical, grounded, practical person. He does not believe in things such as (but not limited to): luck, the supernatural, destiny, fate, and/or magic.
The problem is that all of his rational faculties are currently pointing to one thing: the existence of something that cannot be explained. The existence of something that defies all explanations except the one that he refuses to accept. The existence of a curse.

“I have not spent a Saturday morning at your apartment without hearing this song in two years,” Miles says over him, his own smile that mid-point between smug and recriminating that is, somehow, love. “Your pancake playlist. I picked up the words.”

Phoenix had known what he was doing. He’d known that he’d be giving things up. If he hadn’t known it would be Miles, well, that was because he hadn’t wanted to think about it hard enough. Miles didn’t owe him-- a daughter, a life, a second income, a different world; Miles doesn’t owe him anything anymore.
