“Hypothetically,” Donghyuck says into the phone, trying to sound as nonchalant as he can, “hypothetically, if you’d summoned a demon and can’t remember exactly how you did it and none of the banishing spells you’ve tried have worked so far, what would you do?”
The long silence that comes over the line is damning. Donghyuck cringes through his pounding hangover headache hoping that Renjun isn’t about to start yelling; he also tries very hard to avoid eye contact with the demon that’s sitting on his bed glaring at him because he refuses to accept that this is rapidly becoming a Situation. He’s not even sure how he knows that the demon is glaring at him because in this guise it only possesses eyes in a very loose sense, but he knows.
“What did you do?” Renjun finally asks, sounding as done with Donghyuck as Donghyuck is with himself.

Summary
Grantaire isn’t sure what he’s signing up for when he answers an ad looking for a partner on a homestead out West, but he doesn’t have many other options. When he takes a chance and goes to a town called Amity, he’s met by Enjolras, who’s willing to share a home with him and teach him the work of the farm, but his heart is closed, and they’re wed in name only. Amity is full of friends and outlaws alike, and Grantaire thinks this might finally be a place where he can belong, but it’s hard for it to feel like a home when his husband won’t touch him, and the outlaws are a threat that grows with every passing day.
