    Summary

And then Peter’s alone in his own motel room, sitting on the edge of his bed staring blankly at a TV playing Friends reruns like white noise, trying to parse through his emotions like translating something for Spanish homework. Like he’s picking up on some things, but will probably have to put some effort, consult a textbook and maybe Google translate, to figure out what exactly is going on.

He thinks he’s okay. He feels a little twitchy, a little wrung out and smudged over, but there’s also some dangerous kind of calm and triumph creeping up on him.

Peter, MJ, and a motel room in London.

    Summary

They’re all teenagers— her age more or less— and yet Michelle feels completely separated, knowing without having to ask that these were kids who had lived through the Blip. It was like some unspeakable code that they all knew— the difference between Blipped and non-Blipped kids that served as a gulf between them.

She pushes that away, tapping her pencil against the sketch pad only to be distracted by a blur of teal and pink— a girl with pink converse and a board that’s an almost obnoxious shade of teal— as she dips in and out of view, skating around and into the half pipe.

    Summary

“I’m rewriting this script,” she grabs the stack of paper from the corner of her desk and lets it fall heavily on the surface between them, bent pages fluttering in the wind of it. “And I needed an excuse to completely gut it. Fully page one it.”

“Alright,” he leans back in his chair, legs and arms both crossed defensively. “Then gimme your pitch.”

    “My pitch?”

“That’s a thing in this world, right?” he motions broadly at the room. “Pitch me.”

OR: When indie film director Michelle Jones-Watson gets the chance to adapt beloved comic book hero Spider-Man into the next big summer blockbuster, she expects a lot of hurdles. She doesn’t, however, expect Spider-Man’s creator Peter Parker to be one of her greatest allies in vaulting them.

“What’s your name again?” she asks, not because she doesn’t know (she does) but because she needs another moment to puzzle out what sort of response this kid is looking for from her.

“Peter Parker,” he tells her with a smile.

“You’re kinda morbid, Peter Parker,” she deadpans.

His face immediately falls, and Michelle doesn’t need to be good at reading people in order to see the obvious guilt in his eyes. It takes her aback a little bit.

“I’m so sorry, I was just-- I didn’t mean to--”

“It’s refreshing,” she cuts him off before thinking it through, just so he’ll stop spiraling towards a conversation that she’s pretty sure neither one of them want to have. A pity party for grief-stricken children on the floor of a dance studio.

OR: For prima ballerina Michelle Jones-Watson, growing up and learning to dance are inseparable from each other. (So is falling in love. She’ll figure that one out eventually .)

    Summary

“Come on then, let’s get this over with.”

“Exactly what a guy wants to hear before entering the bedroom,” Peter jokes as she opens the door and leads him in, only for his smile to turn to confusion and then to shock in a matter of three seconds flat.

    “Oh.”

“His name is Toast and I love him very much,” Michelle says.

Peter gapes at the cat, and then very visibly works to school his face as he clears his throat.

“So, uh…” he flounders. “We have a cat now?”

Michelle makes a face, feeling the regret and the guilt bubbling up with all the added certainty that this is something she wants, seeing Toast make himself comfortable in their space the way he is.

“Yeah,” she says, both certain and sheepish. “We have a cat now.”
