    Summary

    My brain was cartwheeling in my skull. Thoughts stormed. Things like What if my ankle snaps?, and Over Descartian vortices I hover, and, looking at you below, Leap of faith. Keays have never been religious. All the way up to the Von Closens we’ve been heathens. But right then, just in that moment, looking down at your pointed face tiny because of the distance between us, I had something I wanted to martyr myself for.

    Or: Keay and Crew (the two-headed lower sixth hydra) and approximately ten thousand other, less human monsters.

    so hypochondriac fancies represent
    ships, armies, battles in the firmament;
    till steady eyes the exhalations solve,
    and all to its first matter, cloud, resolve.

    so habitation come, where it is blest
    rage effluvia, the joiner’s work distressed
    in shaking hands, steeped from the bone
    wherein a burying ground, a hospice, a home.

    Summary

    “Jonathan,” Melanie says, with full contempt, stopping her physical assault on Gerry to start her verbal assault on Jon. “Just turn your head. There are, what,” a brief pause to count, so as to keep her criticism accurate and incisive, “six two-meter windows looking in. If he can’t infer that the place with all the books on shelves is the library, he wouldn’t be a threat to our society in the first place.”

    “No,” Gerry says, thoughtful. “I think you should do a sign. It would be fantastic. Welcome to the M.A. Library. Enter to experience books older than your great-grandfather’s dick, and also maybe premeditated robbery.”

    “Alright,” says Jon. “I get it. There was no reason to bully me about it. Christ.”

    Or: Fuck a timeline. Everyone’s a teen

    Summary

    Was there ever a more conducive environment for strangeness? Leitners circulate in the library system like demons through damnation. Hallways twist into impossible configurations. Above everything, a man watches, green-eyed and pensive, all-seeing. Boys who have been teenagers since the nineties repeat the same grade and watch their teachers’ eyes fog over with memories unshaping themselves.

    Or: Jonathan Sims (fifteen years of age), a watchful school, the losing of his lonesomeness, and a whole library of books older than your great-grandfather’s dick.
