Summary
Shiro struggles with controlling his new Galra arm. Keith helps him with it.Keith raises his chin and juts it out. “You wouldn’t hurt me,” he says stubbornly.
His metal fingertips tremble for something to crush. “You don’t know that,” Shiro whispers back.
“No,” Keith says. “You don’t know it, but you won’t.”
And then he steps fully into Shiro’s space again, his two hands wrapping around Shiro’s palm, tugging up, up, until it rests flush against Keith’s throat.

It begins where it ends.
With a carefully pressed black and white wedding invitation.He’s bottled up his father’s death and mother’s absences in his life well enough, now he just has to cram Shiro’s marriage in there and force the cork down. After all, the image he has cultivated for himself doesn’t allow for an overripe heart that’s puffy and bruised from a lifetime of neglect.
Objectively, Keith never stood a chance. He knows this. Unfortunately for Keith, objectivity doesn’t soothe the pain.
Or, with a wedding looming on the horizon, Keith laments his relationship with Shiro.He wants to know just how Shiro could have missed the signs all these years. It never occurs to him that Shiro might be thinking the same thing.

“It doesn’t need to be normal,” Shiro says.
“I WANT normal!” Keith’s chest heaves, throat raw with the force of his insistence as his truth is birthed into the world. Twenty-five years’ worth of longing shake themselves loose from inside him and when they bleed out, so does his energy. He sinks to his knees, shaking as he repeats the words again and again. “I want normal. I want to be normal, Shiro, why can’t I be normal?”
