“Sounds like a party,” Jessica deadpans. “I’m sure Danny’s being his usual pain-in-the-ass self?”
Luke cringes. “Uh….no. You kinda have to be conscious to be irritating.”
Jessica doesn’t say anything for a startled second, and all that comes across the line is her breathing and rain and shouts and car horns from outside. “I dunno, sometimes I think he could manage.”
“...You wouldn’t if you saw him right now, Jessica.” Luke says quietly, glancing toward the bedroom.
Another beat of static. “Geez, you’re sure being dismal. It’s that serious, huh?” Luke opens his mouth to reply, but Jessica goes on, under her breath. “You’re not his biggest fan anyway---”
