She had one steadfast goal her entire life: succeed her teacher as the World's Strongest Swordsman. She did not account for a directionless, wanted pirate to land on their doorstep with the same idea. Nor did she expect her teacher to agree to house the idiot for two years.

When you were placed into the top American academy for heroic efforts, you expected the harshness of the training. You knew you had to be broken to be remolded. From the day your acceptance letter came until the first day of classes, you knew this would happen and what it began, you endured.
When you were placed into the top American academy for heroic efforts, you expected that you would constantly be pushed to become a better and better version of yourself, not yourself, the version they wanted you to be. I felt something warm and wet running down the sides of my throat; my ears were bleeding. This thing was too heavy and too big. Mom had to know this while I was walking to school. She had told them all of this and they still wanted to test me. But I wanted to go to Yuuei and I wanted a lifetime of doing good.
The sound that came out of my throat as I threw my hands down and the machine was crushed into the ground was inhuman. I dropped to my knees, screaming and digging my nails into the asphalt. Someone could have split my head in two with an ax and it would be bliss compared to this. My body was no longer acting on my volition. It created an agenda of its own and I was no longer a participant. I wouldn’t remember what happened in the hours after.
