Summary
For the second time that day, a woman levelled a rifle at Lena as she stood on the porch of the long, low house, an indistinguishable shadow in the dark.
“Who’s there?” the voice called out, firm and courageous. “Name yourself or I’ll shoot.”
Lena was fading from consciousness, her lips moving soundlessly, and she barely had the energy to straighten in the saddle before the bolt sliding home sounded. And for the second time that day, Lena was shot, the bullet grazing the side of her neck and unseating her as pain blossomed and she finally succumbed to the darkness for good.

Summary
Two years after billionaire Lena Luthor vanished from her office at L-Corp, Tess Mercer appeared in an alleyway in Metropolis with no memory of her past. Barely scraping by as a mechanic in the slums of the city, she finds herself troubled by the things she can do, building bombs from scrap metal and fighting off people with skills she doesn't know where she learnt. Her memory is gone, just out of reach, but Tess can't help but feel like there's something more to her blank past than she knows. Searches for the truth turn up empty, until the fourth anniversary of Lena Luthor's disappearance, when Tess sees her face on the TV and knows that the person she's looking at is herself.
On the other side of the country, Kara Danvers has spent the last four years searching for her missing wife while raising her nephew and masquerading as a part-time superhero. When there's finally news of Lena, things don't go to plan when she comes home to a wife she doesn't know she has, and an eight-year-old child that isn't hers. As they try to recover Lena's memory and figure out what happened to her, Kara struggles to let go of the fact that she might never get her wife back.

Summary
“You have to help me,” Kara hoarsely declared, a plea in the trembling words, which were the last thing that Lena wanted to hear at that moment.
“No. I’m a shop owner, not a bloody necromancer,” Lena scolded her with a scowl, crossing her arms over her chest and drawing herself up in a haughty manner, “I sold you a product. I instructed you how to use that product - I even gave you a safety informational pamphlet, free of charge - and I advised you to seek professional help! What you did when you left this store is not my responsibility, nor is it any of my business or concern. Good day, miss.”

Summary
“Are you going to keep staring at me all night?” the witch said, breaking Kara out of her reverie with a start.
They’d been silent for a few moments now, and she’d fallen into a trance that she would’ve sworn was witchcraft if she didn’t know any better. No, this bewitchment was of Kara’s own volition, enraptured by the woman’s alabaster skin and raven hair plastered to her face. The dark cloak she wore was black with water and seemed to swallow her, making her seem almost childish, playing dress-up in her mother’s clothes. The thought of a childhood so normal for the young witch made Kara startle slightly, blinking rain out of her eyes as she suppressed a shiver.
“Because, you know, if you want to kiss me, you may as well ask. The sun’s setting and it’s cold, and the hills are boring. So, by all means, get on with it.”
Kara choked on a splutter and felt her face warm with embarrassment, chasing away the edge of the cold wind. “I don’t want to kiss you! I’m here to- to slay you.”
