Summary
Instead of just doing what Hannibal tells her, a spooked Abigail finds Will before the dinner with Jack. On a road trip to Louisiana and on to, perhaps, a new life free of Hannibal’s influence, Will and Abigail learn who the other is now, Abigail sort-of gets a new dad, and Will wonders if love with Hannibal can be anything but a slaughterhouse floor.
(Or, in which Abigail isn’t a suitable substitute for therapy but maybe a fed-up teenager getting him to face his feelings is what he needs anyways. Abigail just wants to live and maybe kiss a girl.)

Hannibal's memory did not constitute their coming together as discrete occurrences, but a single, bright, shimmering structure: continuously elaborated and expanded. There was so much yet to discover about Will, his abandon and reticences and curious lacunae of experience, territories unknown – Hannibal was realizing – even to Will himself. All of it endlessly delightful.

"Things were always going wrong. Single handing Nola was an exercise in tight rope walking a razor edge between chaos and tranquillity. It was exactly what he needed however, everything from the fifteen-minute cat naps to the sudden and inescapable moments of harrowing activity staunching calamities before they could ruin everything. It left him tired, true, but usually it left him too tired to think, only enough mental acuity left for watching the wind, sails, and seas.
What had been left in his wake was behind him, never to be seen again once the waves rolled away.
He was sailing toward a goal but he couldn’t let himself think about that yet either, because just like the wake was gone behind him, the goal was over a horizon he hadn’t arrived at yet. It had been exactly ten days since they had discharged him from the hospital. Out of the haze of the heavy morphine, reality sunk into his bones and a depression fell over him. He refused entry to any visitors apart from Abigail, who sat long haired and gaunt by his side as he tried to piece together the reality of his betrayal. Unwinding his brain from the high temples of Hannibal’s office; revisiting their final meeting from all angles, and coming up short every time.

After the events of Mizumono, Will decides against finding Hannibal and instead returns to the house his father died in, some three years earlier.
