    Summary

The monster kidnaps Eliot and Quentin and forces them to star in its own chaotic television show. But it changes the premise every time it gets bored, so they're constantly facing entirely different scenarios and genres - zombies and romance and superheroes and spies and god knows what else. And somehow, in the middle of all that, they have to figure out how to get themselves home.

    ****

Brian wonders if perhaps he might be dead.

He does this idly, like it’s nothing more than a vaguely interesting thought experiment, one in which he doesn’t have any real stake in the possible outcomes.

It’s almost as if he’s imagined being dead many, many times before, enough that it’s no longer a frightening concept. (Although he has no memory of doing anything like that.)

What he does remember is the stalker on the street, the handsome one with the glowing eyes and disturbing rant about playtime and friendship and wrath, and then Brian was just…here. Still standing upright but rendered immobile somehow, trapped in a seemingly infinite blank space where everything is warm and white and soft, like he’s been firmly shoved up the ass of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

    Summary

Eliot Waugh is the Prince of Brakebills University, living without a care in the world. That is, until his platonic soulmate finds love, thanks to his definitely-not-unintentional matchmaking. It was a big change, but all’s well that ends well and he’s happy for Margo and Julia. You know. Mostly.

But no one likes a renowned hedonist who focuses on his inner maudlin blah. So instead, Eliot opts to invest his energy into taking a new girl under his wing. She's dorky, intense, fresh off a year-long sojourn at Brakebills South... and in desperate need of fun.

What a lucky young lady that Alice Quinn is.

(Or: Unabashedly Queer “Emma,” at Brakebills.)

    Summary

Daibazaal isn't the only thing that comes back.

“You're alive,” the boy says with a softness that doesn't fit this place. He reaches out, draws a lock of Lotor's hair toward him. It's too long. It's too dark. The boy's face is a marvel at the sight of it. “What do you remember?” the boy asks.

Everything. Fire and a wholesale destruction that wrecked more than a planet, that shattered something in him, that birthed something new. A thousand tiny slights, the constant struggle, until all that was left in him was the desire to make something burn, too. The rippling surge of quintessence across his skin and then through it, through him, down his veins, bending his form, reordering his cells until he was molded into something bigger than himself. It felt inevitable.

“Nothing,” Lotor whispers past cracked lips. “I remember nothing.”

“I believe they’re trying to flush us out,” Lotor murmurs, mouth brushing Keith’s ear.

Tilting his head, Keith slips further into his orbit. At this angle, their faces are closer than strictly necessary. It’s easier for Lotor to delude himself into believing that’s purely to communicate better. But he knows better than that.

“It’s the family business?” Newt offers and Thomas’s eye twitches. There is a moment of silence. This is, to Thomas, not an acceptable explanation and/or argument.

“I thought your mum was a head hunter!” Thomas shrieks.

Or; Newt is death, Thomas is just along for the ride.
