    Summary

Sansa tries to tug her hand from the old woman’s grasp, but the woman is deceptively strong and holds her tight within her grip. She can feel a tingle down her spine, as though ice is melting and dripping down her back. “I’m not a wolfgirl,” she protests, “that’s my sister.”

The old woman tilts her head, and for a second the waning light catches her wrinkled, pockmarked face. "You are what I’ve seen, girl, and I’ve seen a wolf. Larger than any wolf should be, wild as the true north; white as snow, as the bark of a weirwood tree.”

"Who are you?" Her breath catches. He knows, but then he continues, reverently "Did the old gods send you? To rouse me from my malaise with your weir-red hair and ivory skin and your silver tongue? Are you my beating heart returned?" Her face is flaming and she must look unsure, for he suddenly looks embarrassed and he sinks his face in his hands mumbling, "ugh, I'm sorry. Ignore my nonsense." He peeks his scarred eye up at her bashfully, and she thinks that this is the moment. She should tell him who she really is. He's looking at her so warmly and so…she hesitates, because he wouldn't look at Sansa Stark, his half-sister, the way he's looking at her right now. That would be wrong, and there is something wrong with her, because she doesn't want him to stop. Desire unfurls within her, and she sees it mirrored in his black eyes.

This is a mix of book/show. Major differences from canon: Sansa was fostered by her Aunt Lysa in King's Landing. Jon Snow came to Winterfell after Sansa was already in the South. Ned neither denied nor confirmed that Jon was his bastard. Story takes off after Jon's resurrection. Ramsey holds Winterfell. Sansa has been in the Vale.

"I dance in dangerous fables, walk a woods with trees white as bone. It's always winter and I'm always pressing my face against something warm with blood." - Yasmin Belkhyr, 'Blizzard'.

“Men die,” Barbrey tells her, bone-white with anger, eyes flashing. “Men die, Donella. Should Stark’s boy not sire a son on you, and if the Bastard has the Dreadfort-,”

“You speak as if Robb Stark were in fragile health,” Nell rolls her eyes. “You’re being paranoid.”

“Willam was in excellent health until he rode off to his death at Ned Stark’s side,” Barbrey hisses. “Do you think he did not promise me we would have children and a long life together before he left? Do you think he did not promise to come back to me? You cannot know what the future might bring. My lord husband survived a war only to die in Dorne. Men and their promises are not your safety nor your refuge. Land is. Power is. Never forget that.”

(In which Nell Bolton contends with both her mother's bloodstained legacy and her father's bloodthirsty bastard, and along the way claims a beast for a bridegroom.)
