WARNING: BREACH IMMINENT
tot watches with quiet, bated breath, and lets hirself cheer with the other two as the screen flashes to video of the crabs standing in the middle of their old field, again.

Summary
"hey," ze says, flat, and they startle and drop a container to the floor with a familiar hiss of fuck, goddammit. "why are you in my house?"
"why are you awake?" jaylen says, annoyed, and the fridge swings shut behind her as she kneels down and picks up the tupperware. "i was going to scare you in the morning."

Summary
there’s a necklace that you keep close, because it means something. there’s fuzzy faces in your nightmares that you keep close, because they mean something. there’s that meaning thrumming beneath your skin, but you can’t remember any of it.
you’re missing something. a lot of somethings, if the hole in your chest is to be believed.
but you’re relieved.
despite everything, it feels like it went right.
(or; a post-canon story about learning to live as you are.)

Summary
The sound is soft, gentle taps on the glass, and Jaylen thinks it’s rain until she realizes that this is San Francisco, not Seattle. She opens the window without getting out of bed, kneeling so she can stick her head out to look. She almost gets a pebble in the eye for her trouble.
“Ow,” she hisses, then, “Derrick, what the hell?”

Summary
"Everything was still, stale. All the things that made it harder for Derrick to rest at night, made it easier to find his sleep-of-the-dead in small moments in the here and there, surrounded by sound (friends in the foyer—the CD skips—I remember laughing with them). He could do nothing but stare (staring at a telephone, staring at a Telephone) off into space, spending all his mental effort on staying a quiet, comfortable place for Sebastian to rest his head.
Until Seb started shaking."

Summary
It’s not that Finn expects them to leap back into… whatever it was they were, before. It’s difficult to expect something as undefined as that. But there’s still something there; beyond the simple consistency of Kennedy being Kennedy, beyond the gentle way he’d asked her if she wanted to come back to his house after the game. The war against the Crab Mother had been long, longer than she’d been there for, but wherever Kennedy was was always a safehouse; him with his medic’s kit and his brave face and his seemingly boundless love for the people around him. It hasn't changed in the decade-plus in between then and now.
She feels safer here than she thought she would anywhere above water, after so long below.

Summary
“You can’t just hit someone with a pitch because you’re mad.” Mike says it gently, like he’s not sure Derrick is aware. Or maybe like he doesn’t want to bring it up in the first place.
“There’s nothing in the Book that says I can’t,” Derrick points out, maybe a little too defensive. He runs his free hand through his hair, and lets out a long exhale. “I dunno. I guess I got up there, and I just realized - nobody cares, you know. That I’m back. None of them remember me. The big players, like Boyfriend, they look right through me. So does the band.” He pauses. “They kind of did the same thing to you. When you were pitching, I mean.”
Mike sets his mug down on the coffee table, and frowns. “Kind of.”
“Didn’t it ever make you mad?”
(an alternate reality, a fragmentary dream.)
