Summary
Zagreus is going to leave, and this will be all he has to remember him by, won’t it? Bottles of nectar, the memory of blood, and the smell of pomegranates.
(Was this what it was like for Hades? Will it ruin him the way it ruined his master?)

Summary
He's late, he realizes.
There's a lot of blood here, he realizes a moment later. Not the blackened stains of shades temporarily banished, but the dark-red and glistening of mortal blood, spattered in desperate arcs across the grass, staining the water where the River Lethe pools. Across the chamber, it shifts to a trail of blood, the imprint of bare footprints burned into the darkening liquid.
There. There, slumped with his back against a green-glowing infernal trove, an ethereal sword buried in his chest, a pool of blood slowly spreading beneath him—Zagreus, Prince of the Underworld, his warmth and light so faded that Thanatos didn't even realize he was still in the chamber.

Summary
For as long as Zagreus has known him, Thanatos has worn the gauntlet on his right hand. And now that Zagreus knows him a little better, it still hasn't come off.
Zagreus doesn't know he wants to know why, until he asks.

Summary
The river is high again. It laps up against the greaves of the statues in this chamber this time, the long grasses submerged and waving gently in the hazy waters. Last it took this chamber, it only rose to the top of the pedestals.
He's learned to see the signs of when the river is about to rush out of its banks to take the chambers: the river grows wilder and the ground becomes soft and damp, water rising up between his toes and hissing into steam where it meets his feet. He’ll be glad when the water recedes again.

Summary
Hades places one hand over Zag’s head, careful to make the touch soft, barely noticeable. He doubts he’s ever done this, pat his son on the head. Or touched him at all in a manner that did not hurt him. Not in years at least.
(I’m sorry, he does not say.)
With his other hand, he snaps his fingers.
Or: Zagreus is cursed to forget each time he dies.
