    Summary

“You’re a menace,” Peter puffed, but there’s none of the venom in his voice that the words imply.

Sure- he didn’t sound happy, his voice strained, likely very fed up with the teasing, but it was delivered with the same tone he usually hisses ‘land dweller’ in that half joking, half serious way of his.

That accusatory tone he takes on when she does something that’s totally contradictory to the customs of someone who’d spent their whole life under the seas, or something he just thinks is straight up weird- and he does that cute little scrunchy face before saying land dweller like it’s a dirty word. You know. That tone.

Or the one he uses when the teasing got too much for him to bear in the bedroom and he got all sexually frustrated. They weren’t in the bedroom, though.

No, she’s treading water, and Peter looks absolutely breathtaking. The cool waves lapping at them are a delight under the warmth of the sun. It really is picturesque.

“Really? I thought you liked this,” Gamora smirked, all light and sing-songy just to taunt him.

    Summary

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were trying to tempt me," Gamora murmured, a knowing little smirk playing at her lips.
Trying to tempt her, that's all his constant flirting could be described as.
Even though temptation wasn't part of an angel's job description.
It's not as though his advances were unwanted.
She was just… waiting on something.
She was waiting until Peter deserved what she was going to do to him.
    Waiting until he earned it.

“Haven't you ever heard not to mix business and pleasure?” Gamora asked, a sly smile at her lips.
“Honey, we're in the pleasure business.” He said it like he was in some John Wayne movie, when Gamora was pretty sure he stuck to westerns and not porn.
Though Peter would probably jump at the opportunity to do a western porn parody.
    Oh god, the puns.
Peter was straight up grinning at her now, like he knew he just said the cheesiest thing in the world, and he was proud of it.

[Or: Peter's a porn star, Gamora's a porn producer, they've kinda been flirting for months, and Peter just wants to take her on a date]

    Summary

Peter's good at fiddling with stuff.
    Not necessarily fixing, but fiddling.
He can work with the things that want to be fixed, and find what wants to be found, but sometimes objects are just plain out non-cooperative. He thinks he'd run a repair shop if broken things weren't so fickle.
That's the thing about antiques. Old things usually want to be fixed. And even when they don't, all sorts will come into the shop and purposely buy something full well knowing it will never work again.
He's learned to not force things- not if he wants to keep all his fingers intact. You haven't met a malfunctioning device until you met one that was maliciously malfunctioning.
So he keeps his fingers ready to pick up what they will, fiddle and tweak whatever he can get his hands on, careful to listen closely for the signs of impatience, the shaking and movements that meant his intervention wouldn't be tolerated much longer. He would never change something that didn't want to be changed, broken or not.

    Summary

“Perfect,” Gamora said, affixing the device behind a tiny green ear, brushing aside her daughter's dark curls and kissing her on the forehead before triggering the mask. Peter was still asleep (of course he was) and it had been the easiest thing in the world snatching the mechanism off their dresser this morning.
The little girl in front of her had devolved into a bundle of snickers and giggles, clapping in utter delight as Star-Lord's signature mask slid over her face.
“Can you hear me, baby?” Gamora asked, whispering and tapping the ear bud in her own ear to test the com link she'd already set up.
    “Ye-es!”

Now it was onto phase two of the plan.

    Starmora drabbles
Fluff, humor, love- all the high points.

    Chapter 6 preview:
“Peter, what is it?” She asks, holding the offending object in her hands, tilting it side to side as she inspected it.

Gamora’s pretty sure it’s meant to be a gift, judging by the placement- on the center of her bed, so she couldn’t miss it- but that’s all she can be sure of. She had taken a seat on her bed as she grabbed for it, and she can acutely feel him watching her from behind. Waiting for her reaction, maybe?

Peter sighs. “It’s just a stuffed animal. You liked the polar bears last time we were on earth, remember?” He offers by way of explanation. “So I just, I dunno. Polar bear.”

“It’s wearing a bathrobe,” she says oddly, still puzzling over the thing.

    Summary

Prompt: Gamora brings Peter dead things to show she is strong and can provide for them.

    They start small, at first.
Like the first time he wakes up and finds a dead mouse outside his door.
He sighs. He really should get a cat.
Now that they had baby Groot on board, Peter hadn’t thought it was the best idea to use poison baits as pest control in case the little sapling ate some, but he guessed this intergalactic threat to their rations and circuitry found some that Peter had missed and kicked the bucket.
    Good riddance.

The next instances are few and far between. But they become bigger, less unassuming.
A rat that’s more like a Guinea pig, some weird looking lizard- he finally snaps when he finds a dead mongoose outside his fucking door.

What he intended to be a mild mannered confrontation quickly turns into a full out argument in the hallway.
(Who was he kidding, it started out an argument, and got worse from there).
“Okay, Rocket, you’ve gotta stop leaving dead things outside my door. Ha ha, funny prank, but it ends today. Stop it, dude.”

    Summary

They don't have time for this. Not if they want to make it out of here alive and with Peter's memory intact. For once in his life he has a healthy sense of caution, which is really inconvenient considering their time frame.

Nevermind the fact that the first time they met she tried to kill him, and he still saved her life and placed his trust in her even though he had several very solid reasons not to. No, this is the time where Peter insists she give him a reason to trust her (the fact that it’s not an unreasonable request infuriates her to no end). Unfortunately, Gamora doesn’t have anything to convince a memory-less Peter Quill that what she says is true, they are friends, and they need to get moving now.

Gamora pinches the bridge of her nose and growls. "How am I supposed to prove it to you when you don't remember anything, dumbass?"

"I don't know!" Peter squawks. "I have a vested interest in keeping myself alive, and right now that means not trusting the chick carrying a fucking sword."

    Summary

“Sometimes it just feels like I spend my whole life trying not to be lost,” Peter tells her with a wry smile, shaking his head at himself. It doesn't quite mask the pain, but it makes it a little more bearable.
The funny thing is- Gamora knows exactly what he means. That feeling. It's so familiar it makes her chest ache.
“Like you don't know where you are. Or if you're supposed to be looking for something,” she says quietly, staring out the windshield. “And it's like- something's not there yet, or you're not there yet. But there's something not there, where it's supposed to be. Lost. And you don't know if you're supposed to find something, or if you're supposed to be found. But the feeling never goes away. It's always there. Because something's not. Something's out of place. And if it was a simple as feeling lost until you find a home, I wouldn't still feel this way,” she says the last part bitterly, fingers curling into fists. But finally saying it out loud grants her a little release.
Gamora exhales, shoulders falling in defeat. “I... I wouldn't still be looking.”

A wet chuckle escapes her lips when she recalls Peter's first suggestion for a name- namely, not one. We could just call it baby, and as ridiculous as it was, looking down at the tiny green infant in her arms, all Gamora wanted to do was say Hi baby, hi baby girl all day long as she wiggled her finger in her daughter's teeny tiny little baby hands.

    Summary

He never stays for very long after. Always gone from her room within the hour, usually quicker. But it’s like it’s always a chore for him- to get up and leave her bed, leave her side. Then he starts cracking jokes and making her laugh as he gets dressed, so everything is light and warm at the ending of their nights.
But there are little things- little cues from him, that she has trouble picking up on. The heaviness in his eyes a few seconds before he pulls away from her, before it’s replaced with that signature Peter Quill lightheartedness that he can call up whenever he needs to. He is more… versed on personal interaction, and her less so on the intricacies of human nature.
But Gamora picks up on it- eventually. That little flash of something that she can’t quite recognize before everything becomes easy again, and Peter goes about making her smile and leaving as per their usual routine.
After enough time she realizes it’s a flash of something unpleasant, some unwanted feeling that he pushes away as quickly as possible. Once she spots it, she can’t help but see it every time.

Peter peddled in stories. She could see that now. Sometimes.

    Summary

Soulmate marks are supposed to be symbols, usually something highly personal to your soulmate.
Peter always thought his soulmate would have like his walkman or the awesome mix on their skin, considering how important they are. Or maybe their soulmark would be his mask, part of his signature Starlord look- pretty identifiable on why that symbol was supposed to be representative of him.
He’d put his money on the awesome mix or its player, though. They were defining, to who he was. The person Peter is.
Soulmarks were supposed to be representative symbols of your soulmate.
    He always thought...

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Peter shouted. “Are you. Fucking. Kidding me?!
    He couldn't believe this.
Gamora could stand to look a little less pleased, smirking like she was at his reaction.
If she was supposed to be his mentor inducting him into this whole fae thing, she could at least pretend not to be enjoying the reveal so much.
The exact nature of his bloodline had been kept a secret from him while she showed him the ropes over the past few months. They'd even become friends- that teasing sort of smile on her face was usually one he was all too happy to see. But not tonight.
Gamora had known what he was the whole time, but apparently it was some policy or something to keep it confidential from the newbies that had been raised in the human world as their mentor introduced them to the magic world- part of the training or something.
All this time- he thought it would be something cool. Maybe a forest spirit like her- though he had seen some pretty nifty tricks from a couple of fire elementals (seriously, fire fairies with fire magic was fucking awesome).
But no. After all this build up-
    God fucking dammit.

“I don't even know what my name means,” Gamora admits with a wry chuckle.
They're having another late night conversation, keeping watch, one of those talks that she's come to appreciate more and more lately. She's never talked to him about soulmarks before. She never talks to anyone about soulmarks.
It's too... she doesn't have a word for it.
It makes her feel the loss of her people keenly. Quill is probably the first person she's ever told this to.
“They don't have any databases?” He asks softly. Because of how soulmarks worked, name meanings were one of the most well documented thing for each species, considering the significance of it.
Gamora shakes her head. “No. We didn't have much contact from intergalactic travelers. I don't think we had any. There was no one to keep an independent record, or to input anything into an intergalactic database. It all burned with Zen-Whoberi. It won't matter what is written on my soulmate's skin. Could be anything. I'll never know. Whatever their soulmark is- might as well be nothing.”
“I hope you find them,” Peter says, a soft earnestness that makes her throat feel thick.
Even if they're not me, he thinks.

“Oh, do that one next,” Gamora said, pointing to the thumbnail of another generically named After Dentist Wisdom Teeth Removal - lolololol video that looked promising.
From what she understood, the human boy sitting beside her was extremely technologically adept by Terran standards, and the planet as a whole had made large technological advancements since the 1980s, including the touch pad screen that they were watching videos on now.
The Avenger’s Peter looked remarkably similar to her own Peter, and she half wondered if her Peter looked the same when he was 17. He was the youngest Avenger she had met, and by far the most enthusiastic about her and the other Guardians being aliens.
All of his teammates were released from the medical facility by now, but still he chose to just hang out with Gamora, asking her lots of questions between the funny videos.

(The story of how Peter Parker bonds with Gamora by showing her youtube videos of people high after dental operations, and their resulting friendship. Also, Peter Quill is accidentally exposed to what’s basically space catnip in the background, but that’s neither here nor there.)

Gamora ran her hand up his back, marveling at the way his muscles bunched up so beautifully, how his ribcage expanded in reaction to her fingertips skating along his spine. Peter kneeled before her, delightfully bare, quiet in a way that was so rare for him outside of these intimate moments they shared.
Holding the infinity stone- it activated something in him, some part of his DNA, and he found out his mom calling his dad an angel was more literal than he had any idea of.
He still had scars, between his shoulder blades, from the wings growing, breaking through the skin of his back, causing him more pain than anything as beautiful as his wings were ever should.

    Summary

There's a sharp intake of breath from beside him before Gamora started weakly hitting his arm to get his attention.
“Peter, I want it,” she said, staring straight ahead. Her eyes were impossibly wide, her voice hushed in that way that reminded him of a kid that was too excited and completely overwhelmed, with that quiet bit of wonder that made it seem like they were seconds away from shutting down in the face of something too amazing to process.
He looked over and followed her gaze to find what had her all worked up. Safe to say he was surprised to find that Gamora was staring at a cat. A kitten, to be more accurate.
Even though she had his full attention, she hadn't stopped tap tap tapping on his upper arm with her whole hand, insistent as she marveled at the creature she couldn't seem to look away from.
He looked back and forth between Gamora and the animal she was staring at. Then he squinted at her. “You want one of those?”
Gamora nodded, turning to him expectantly. “Go get me that black one. We have a connection. It wants to come home with us.”
