The stars blurred into lines on the viewscreen as they made the jump. He was ready, they all were. They had run this drill with Fett a dozen times until Din could pilot it in his sleep. No plan lasted a minute once you came upon the enemy—but with Fett’s reputation and his own abilities? He wasn't worried. They both knew how to be flexible.
Din was confident that this part would go smoothly, it was only the dark troopers that had him worried. He knew first hand how formidable they were. He would have to be quick as to not let them be activated.
But when they made the jump the sight before them was not one they had thought to find. It was so far out of the realm of possibility not one of their number had thought to plan for it, to even think it could be a possibility.
The cruiser was venting atmosphere and there were black burns all across its hull. It was tilted off its axis and slowly falling into the gravity well of a nearby planet. If it still had life support? It was undoubtedly failing if the ship was this badly damaged.
(or what if Luke got there before Din and rescued Grogu from Gideon so that Din never got to say goodbye)
