Summary
Wen Ning looks up at Wei Ying with glassy eyes and asks, “where are we? I just want to go home.”
Opening his mouth to reply, Wei Ying finds himself at a loss. He doesn’t actually know where they are. His only thought that morning had been to get as far away from home- no, he corrects himself, from the Jiang residence- as possible. He’d been unable to think any further than that.
He tries a smile for Wen Ning’s benefit, but the little crease that forms between Wen Ning’s eyebrows suggests he’d not achieved the effect he was hoping for.
“Then we’ll get you home.”
One of them should get to go home, after all.

Flushing in embarrassment, Wei Ying hurries over to A-Yuan and crouches to place his hands on his shoulders. “A-Yuan, that’s enough,” he says. “Sorry, Lan Zhan, he used to go to a different bookstore where they host regular storytimes, I think he thinks you’re the designated storyteller for the day—”
He gets to his feet, holding A-Yuan at his hip, and glances up to look at Lan Zhan. It’s an awful, terrible, horrible mistake. This close, every detail of his face is utterly inescapable.
“Story time,” says A-Yuan, lower lip wobbling dangerously.
Wei Ying glances around, finding people staring curiously at the scene unfolding before them. “A-Yuan,” he hisses urgently. “We need to go. I’ll tell you a story on the way home, okay?”
“Do you really need to go?”
Wei Ying starts at Lan Zhan’s voice. He’s still looking steadily at him, an unreadable expression in his eyes.
(Seven years after running away from home to pursue a story that would expose one of the biggest media scandals in recent years, Wei Ying runs into the last person he’s expecting to see at a quaint, forgotten bookstore he hasn’t set foot in for a very long time.)

Summary
It was a beautiful, sunny day. A crisp, cool breeze was blowing, offset by the warm rays of the sun. The grass was vibrantly green, sprinkled with tiny white flowers. The rabbits were out, hopping contentedly around their meadow, practically begging to be picked up and cuddled. All of it was made surreal by the fact that a six-year-old Lan WangJi sat in the middle of the clearing, silently petting a black rabbit that had made itself comfortable on his lap.
Wei WuXian sat nearer the edge of the meadow, legs crossed at the ankles, chin in hand, and his elbow resting on his knee. He stared at Lan WangJi, searching for happiness in him.

Wei Wuxian’s got it, alright, he has this in the fucking bag.
