"How old is this place?" she asked, turning in a circle to see it in 360. Nicky put a hand on her shoulder to point her between the pews, towards the altar.
"Not as old as you think," he said. "They’ve added a lot of things, over the years. Everything you see-" He gestured at the intricate carving on the walls, the side chapels. "All younger than me, you know."

"I don't want to kill anyone," he says slowly, bracing himself for the inevitable look of disgust, to be called a coward. It's an assumption plenty of people have made because of his size alone. "I don't like bullies. I don't care where they're from."
The corners of Erskine's mouth turn down thoughtfully as he nods, clearly pleased with Steve's answer. "I see. And what is your opinion of demons, Mr. Rogers?"
After Andy fucks off to God-knows-where and Booker rents a sketchy, lowly-lit motel room twenty miles outside of Kathmandu, presumably to get drunk and be depressed in peace, Nicky turns to Joe and asks, “Well, where to next?”
Sarwa is ladling stew into bowls and she hands the first one to Yusuf, who passes it to Nicolo and takes a drink from the now filled flask. “Is he your lover?” she asks.
Yusuf chokes on water and Nicolo pounds his back, eyebrows peaked with concern.

Sarwa looks at him, nothing but mild curiosity on her face.
Yusuf glances at Nicolo. The firelight paints his cheekbones flickering gold, his eyes hooded and sleepy in the dim light.
“I don’t know what he is,” Yusuf finally admits, still looking at Nicolo.
Nicolo’s mouth quirks and he takes another bite of soup.
“He looks at you like you belong to him,” Sarwa says.
Nicolo keeps eating, oblivious to what they’re saying.
“I think he belongs to me too,” Yusuf whispers.
Two hundred sixty-one years.
And countless near-death moments.
And yet nothing, nothing prepares him for the excruciating agony of watching Nicolo walk out the door and realizing that he is the one who made him leave.
