    Summary

Xiao knew, every time he decided against his common sense, every time he indulged upon his momentary feelings, that Hu Tao would one day leave, ever so elusive, much like the butterflies that adorn her every step. He would not want to wish immortality on anyone, but especially not her, who understands and accepts death most.

Xiao did not hold her back. He let her dance among the lilies, splash her feet by the reeds, humming the tune of the flute that had gone for quite some time. He let her waltz in and out of his life unimpeded, without warning, pulling the rug from underneath him every time, catching him by a beautiful surprise that no one other than Hu Tao herself could carry.

(of the immortal with a lifelong curse, and the ephemeral, ethereal mortal.)
