The pain blooms on his throat this time as the characters that write the answer carve themselves into his skin. It doesn’t feel like a scalpel cutting through his skin this time. Nor does it feel like his skin is breaking on its own after being stretched too thin. Instead, the experience is akin to having his throat literally shredded, as if a million of tiny, jagged claws or teeth are digging into his flesh and pulling at it to brand him with the words.
This time, Katsuki screams.

The question she’d been stuck on was how much difference that would make if Borogravia itself could not do better.

Summary

He wakes up to the school on fire, unable to get up, with only Deku at his side attempting to help him - not that he needs the help, no matter what his body might have to say about it. They brave the flames together, looking for a way out. Though even if they do get out, they won't be unscathed.

how can this be the single best fic in this fandom and yet,,
it's so well written, the kind of au where things change so Much but i never questioned it, it never felt ooc. the whole plot makes so much sense and the writing style is amazing and the end was? i saw it coming from miles away but it didn't feel predictable, it felt like the author came through with what they promised. it didn't feel like a cop-out, and it made me realise how much other fics have that sort of ending (even if it didn't feel like that before because i didn't have something that felt more real to compare it to) anddd now nothing is quite going to it, huh. also, the ending is amazing, but i stg i still want to scream for 62728252 days into the abyss about it, and like at least 35% of that is bc i'm mad about it but literally no other ending would have fit as well or made as much sense

Wei Wuxian turns back to Master Lan, one eyebrow tilting up in question. “An urgent matter has come up,” Lan Qiren says, every word sounding like it’s being forcibly dragged from him. “His Excellency requests my presence. Their current instructor is ill, I was meant to take over classes for today,” he continues, gesturing towards the tiny juniors. He swallows heavily, and the next sentence sounds bitter. Choked. “I cannot leave them unattended.”
Wei Wuxian just blinks at him.

It’s enough, anyway, to draw Wei Ying’s attention. Lan Wangji watches as Wei Ying’s smile breaks open like a flower.
