Summary
Everything hurts.
It seems like such a ridiculous statement to Wangji. There’s no way everything can hurt, but that’s certainly what it feels like right now. His limbs are screaming with exhaustion, having been worked to their limit. His breath comes in harsh gasps, his chest heaving with the effort it takes to draw each one. His vision is half-glazed over, swimming, blurry. The air is thick with the scent of blood and dirt and viscera. Everyone is covered in blood- both their own and that of the yaoguai- and no one is standing.
Sizhui and Jingyi are huddled in the roots of a tree, Sizhui cradled in Jingyi’s arms. Shufu is in similar shape to Wangji, breathing hard as he kneels in the dirt. Wei Ying- where is Wei Ying?
This is not an ideal situation.
This was not supposed to happen.

Summary
He’s doing his best not to run. Running makes it look like something is happening, something that other people think they need to be involved in. There have already been a few false alarms, instances of people claiming they had knowledge of Xichen’s whereabouts when they truly had none, and one of the more memorable ones was actually a Wen spy trying to infiltrate the camp. It did not end well for the spy.
It’s possible this is another fake, someone claiming to be Lan Xichen, and that helps slow Mingjue down to a reasonable speed. This person would have to be either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid to pretend to be Lan Xichen when most of the cultivation world knows that Mingjue and Xichen have known each other for years. If this a pretender…

Lan Xichen returns during the Sunshot Campaign. He and Nie Mingjue both have a lot of feelings.

“Nie er-gongzi, what do you mean?”
Huaisang smiles benignly, fluttering his fan, and says, “Why, Jin-zongzhu, I only mean to ask why you think someone born of a whore is filthy? Seeing as how you have no thoughts on the apparent filthiness of whores when you go to see them.”
This causes a minor uproar, which Huaisang apparently expected, as his expression doesn’t change. Jin Guangshan’s face is a vivid red, so red as to make his vermilion mark indistinguishable. Meng Yao makes a perfunctory effort to silence Huaisang, but they both know that’s all it is; he certainly won’t stop Huaisang speaking out.

Summary
Lan Qiren always thinks about his brother on days like these. Almost-spring days, he thinks of them as, the plum trees putting out leaves and the air full of the scent of soil after rain. None of the other seasons hit him like this, and that's something to be grateful for, at least. Just spring. Just memories of his brother.
It's been a long, long time since Lan Qiren didn't hate this time of year.

Sizhui’s hand tightened on the fabric of his outer robe. The gesture was so small, so childish, that it dragged Lan Wangji out of his grief immediately. His boy was here, and he needed him, so he did the only thing he could think of. He wrapped his arms around Sizhui and pulled him closer, cradling the back of his head with one large hand, and humming softly.
Or Lan Sizhui had a nightmare and needs a hug.

Summary
Yunmeng Jiang is housing a retinue from Qinghe, here on diplomatic grounds. Among the people gathered here is Sect Leader Nie. Maybe that’s the reason why Jiang Cheng is restless - he can never keep himself still around that man.
Jiang Cheng feels so stupid to act this way - as if wartime flings aren’t just a thing that happen sometimes - but how can he help it, when the last time they’d met, all those months ago during the Sunshot Campaign, Nie Mingjue had pressed kiss after aching kiss to his mouth, to his neck, to his shoulders?
Jiang Cheng bites his lip and breathes out hard through his nose. He needs to work off some of this energy, before it comes back to bite him in the ass. Before he starts expecting things that weren’t meant for him in the first place.
