Summary
Newt holds his hand up, and Thomas accepts the silent request by raising his own hand and pressing their palms together just like they used to do as kids.
“Listen,” Newt continues, intertwining their fingers. His hand is soft and so, so warm. “I don’t know what’s going on with you, but you can tell me anything.”
Thomas has to bite his lip to keep himself from smiling too much. "And I would, but that’s the thing—I don’t know what’s going on either. I think I’m just stressed out, though, so don’t worry.”
“Well, let me know when you figure it out, yeah?” Newt murmurs, and then his eyes flutter shut. “We can solve it together, surely.”
“Yeah,” Thomas breathes. “We always do.”

Summary
Newt's eyes are dark pools of determination and something else, something more mysterious that Thomas can’t quite distinguish. Their lack of height difference allows Newt to press another soft kiss to the corner of his mouth before whispering, “Come to bed, love. Let me make you feel better, yeah?”
Thomas’ heart rate picks up at Newt’s words and the clear implications they hold, and the gentle warmth in his chest is suddenly replaced by an unpleasant sense of nervousness.

Summary
Thomas lays Newt down on the ground gently, careful not to hurt him any more than he already has. Newt is looking up at him, and the first thing Thomas notices are his eyes: once black and bloodshot, now fading back to a familiar, warm brown. The darkened veins all over his face and neck also seem to be losing their bizarre color, slowly but surely.
Thomas and Brenda are leaning over him, watching a miracle unfold before their very eyes.Or: the Swipe fails, and Thomas falls. (In a lot of different ways, actually.)
