Chapter 1: Tell Me What’s Wrong
Momo was worried to put it lightly. Kyouka had been acting strangely lately and she was starting to get concerned. At first Momo didn't think that there was anything to worry about. When Kyuoka's behavior started to change it stared out small. It started with her spending a few less hours with Momo and her friends to study and train. No big deal right? Exams were coming up after all and it was clear Kyouka wanted to do her absolute best.
But then things started to change. Things took a turn for the worst when Kyouka started to act more miserable. She wouldn't tease Kaminari when he did something stupid. She wouldn't pester Bakugo when he was being, well himself. She wouldn't even blush at Momo's affection like she usually did. Not too long after that a few more hours starting turning into Kyouka spending the entire day studying and training. Eating a little less food turned into finding meals in trashcans all over the dorms. In fact Kyouka wasn't usually at meals anymore. Momo was confident that her girlfriend wasn't eating as much as she was letting on. She has barely seen Kyouka eating anything lately and the few bites that she has looked forced. An hour less of sleep turned into Kyouka staying up the entire night.
So Momo thinks she has a right to be worried. Right now, she was looking for said girl in the dorms. She hadn't seen much of her in a while and was going to
force ask Kyouka to relax with her tonight. But once class ended Kyouka immediately disappeared, like she has been for the past few days.
She walked into the common room to see the 'Bakusquad' hanging out and watching tv.
"Hey, Yaomomo! You want to join us?" Kaminari asked noticing the girl walking in.
"No thank you Kaminari. I am actually trying to find Kyouka right now. Have you seen her?" she asked.
Kaminari shook his head.
"I have," Kirishima stated. "I saw her in the training area. I tried to convince her to hang out with us, but she insisted on training," he explained looking concerned as he did so. Of course she's training. Momo thought.
"Thanks you guys!" she left before they even had a chance to respond.
When Momo got to the training area Kyouka was, unsurprisingly, still there. She was attacking a block of stone with her earphone jacks. Momo walked towards her girlfriend who definitely looked a little worse for wear. She looked like a complete mess. The huge bags under her eyes, indicating lack of sleep, were not helping. She didn't even seem to notice Momo.
Kyouka let out a startled yelp. "Oh! Hey, Momo. What are you doing here?" she asked with a smile that was obviously forced.
"I wanted to see if you wanted to hang out. We haven't in a while and you should have a break," Momo explained deciding not to use force right away.
Kyouka's forced smile disappeared as she turned back to the stone block and staring attacking it with her plugs again. "I appreciate the offer Momo, but I'm fine. Maybe some other time,"
It was obvious that Kyouka was lying and Momo wasn't having it. "Come on Kyouka. Just for tonight. You can go back to training tomorrow,"
"Trust me Momo I'm fine," Kyouka said obviously a bit more frustrated.
"You're not fine Kyouka! Everyone is starting to get worried and I-"
"I said I'm fine, Momo!" Kyouka yelled, cutting Momo off. She stopped training for a moment to yell.
Kyouka took a deep breath before she started speaking again. "I'm fine, okay? Just leave me alone, please," she said not looking at Momo.
Momo stared at Kyouka for a moment, a bit shocked by her girlfriend's outburst. "Fine. If that is what you want," she said sounding a bit colder than she intended, but she didn't bother to correct herself. Momo looked back at Kyouka right before she left the room, only to see her going straight back to training.
"I am so frustrated Todoroki!"
Momo exclaimed as she was pacing in his room. It had been about 2 hours and she needed to vent. "I want to help her, but she is not letting me! She won't even tell me what is wrong!" she vented.
"And you're coming to me because?" he said as he watched her pacing.
"Because you are my friend, and I don't know who else to ask for help," Momo said exasperated.
"Still don't know why you're coming to me of all people." Todoroki said only to be cut of by Momo's glare.
"Look I don't know Jirou that well, not like you do. But what I do know is that she's stubborn when it comes to people taking care of her. No matter how much she may need your help, all you can really do is wait for her to come to you," he stated.
Momo only had a few moments to process the information before Mina practically burst into the bedroom with no warning. She was breathing heavily and her panicked eyes landed on Momo.
"There you are! I've been looking for you everywhere! Now come on let's go!" Mina said as she quickly grabbed Momo and hurriedly started to drag her away.
"M-Mina?! What are you doing? What is going on?!" Momo exclaimed startled as she pulled herself out of Mina's grip.
Then Mina proceeded to sprint and Momo followed. "Midoriya found your girlfriend passed out in the training area 30 minutes ago! She's with Recovery Girl right now. I tried calling you but you weren't answering," Mina explained.
Guilt immediately flooded over Momo. Why was I not more insistent? Why did I not stop her? Kyouka looked like she could pass out any moment and I just left her! Her thoughts were put to a halt as she arrived at Recovery Girls ward. Both Kaminari and Midoryia were outside waiting anxiously.
"What is her status right now?" Momo asked incredibly worried.
"She's still unconscious. As well as suffering from severe dehydration, malnutrition, and exhaustion," Midoryia stated in a quick and nervous matter.
"This is my fault. I saw her only two hours ago. I should have made more of an effort to help her," she said full of guilt.
Kaminari put his hand on her shoulder to comfort her. "It's not your fault. We all could've done more for Jirou."
Then the door to Recovery Girl's Room opened up and the mentioned hero stepped out.
"How is she?" Momo immediately asked anxiously.
"The girl messed herself up pretty good, but she'll be fine. So long as she takes what I told her seriously," Recovery said.
"She's awake? Can I go see her?" she asked.
"She won't be awake long thanks the medication I gave her. But only one of you can go see her! The kid is giving me enough hassle as it is," she answered.
Momo looked over to her friends and they each gave her a nod. So she went into the room quickly, but quietly.
The room was dark, but it was still pretty easy to see Kyouka sitting up on the bed. Momo pulled up a chair next to the bed and sat down.
"Kyouka, I want you to tell me the truth. What's going on?" she asked solemnly, putting her hand on Kyouka's.
"Nothing, I just got a little carried away today. I'm fi-,"
"Stop lying to me Kyouka!" Momo exclaimed cutting her off. "You have been pushing yourself to the brink! You could have gotten hurt or worse!"
"I get it, okay?! I know I messed up! Just stop pitying me!" Kyouka yelled tears starting to form in her eyes.
Momo stiffened in surprise. "Pitying you? Kyouka, why on earth do think I am pitying you?" she asked now a whole lot more concerned than before.
"Well why else would someone as amazing as you be with someone like me!" Kyouka yelled, her tears now starting to flow down her face.
There was a stunned and tense silence for what felt like an eternity.
"I'm snarky and rude to everyone around me. I'm not attractive in any way. My quirk is completely useless unless I have some kind of equipment. Heck! The only reason that I'm in UA is due to pure luck. I'm nothing but a burden, if the training camp proved anything. I don't deserve to be here. I don't deserve to be a hero. I don't deserve you," Kyouka said softly as she was trying and failing to hold back her sobs. She didn't dare look up a Momo and looked at her lap instead.
Momo's heart broke as she saw her girlfriend like this. "Kyouka. Look at me please," The rocker hesitantly looked up and was surprised when Momo pulled her into a kiss. It was short, but it was easy to tell that there was passion in it. She was even more surprised when she saw the amount of love that was burning in her onyx orbs.
"Kyouka I love you. I would not be in a relationship with you if I did not. You are the most beautiful person that I have ever met in my whole life. Know that I have never and will not ever pity you," she said in a very serious demeanor.
"You said a lot of things that you'd say makes you not deserve everything you have. But now I'm going to tell you what you do," Momo held Kyouka's hand tightly as the girl was still trying to hold back her sobs.
"You are smart, and strong. You are always able to keep calm and come up with some sort of plan in any situation. You are one of the most talented people I know. I don't know anyone else who can play as many instruments or sing as well as you do. You are constantly keeping everyone grounded and with reality when we need it the most. You can hear the quietest things without any equipment. On top of that I have lost count of the amount of times your heartbeat has saved me," she said as she placed her hand over Kyouka's heart.
"So if anything I do not deserve you."
Kyouka finally let go of her tears and sobbed. She quickly pulled Momo into a tight hug which the latter quickly returned. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry," she muttered over and over again.
Momo rubbed small circles into her girlfriend's back as she cried. "There is no need to be sorry. But who told you that I was pitying you?"
Kyouka nuzzled her head into Momo's shoulder, still crying, so her words were a bit muffled. "The voices," she muttered quietly. "They don't stop. They torment me day and night. They keep saying that I'm a burden. That I'll never be good enough. That if I ask for help I'm only being more of a burden then I already am," Kyouka couldn't speak anymore as she continued to cry.
Momo definitely felt very guilty but she wasn't going to tell Kyouka that. I'll talk to Recovery Girl tomorrow about this. I do not want Kyouka to do anything worse because of her insecurities. she thought but for now she was content with comforting her girlfriend as she let out all the emotions that had been building up.
After a while Kyouka's sobs quieted down and she started to dose off. Momo noticed this and set her down. She was about to leave when Kyouka grabbed her by the wrist. Momo looked over to see a lightly blushing Kyouka.
"Please, stay with me."
A soft smile formed on Momo's face as she climbed in and spooned Kyouka over. She ran a hand through the rocker's hair who quickly began drifting off. "I love you Momo," she muttered sleepily as she drifted off.
"I love you too." Momo kissed Kyouka on the head, even though she was already asleep. Momo pulled Kyouka closer to her as she drifted off into the realm of sleep.
