Summary:
Jiang Cheng pays a visit to Lan Xichen after two years of seclusion. He finds a different man than he used to know and together they begin something new.
“I...” he began, then had to lick his dry lips. “I know what it’s like.” Lan Xichen met his eyes, raised his brows. “To lose...someone. To be betrayed.” He stopped, wincing. “To feel betrayed by someone you trusted.” He swallowed, closed his eyes for a moment. “To lose them, too.” He felt Lan Xichen’s gaze on him, but couldn’t look up. “Anyway,” he continued roughly, “I’m sure you’re handling it much better than me.” He downed the remainder of the wine in his bowl.
Lan Xichen surprised him with a huff of laughter. It sounded dry, twisted, more bitter than he could imagine a noise coming from the First Jade could ever be.
“Hardly,” said Lan Xichen.

finally.... i edited this. I recorded this last year soon after the original fic was posted, so it has been pretty much a whole season since then. /o\ life has been kicking my butt in the mental health department, but here!! i made a thing!
please note there are uh, a few mistakes in this recording. I swear I thought I caught them all when I was actually recording, but I ended up missing a few. Nothing major, but the text is very slightly different, and there's unfortunately no way I'm going to be able to go back and fix them //sobs
this is sort of an exercise of mental health chicken, since this is also the most explicit thing I've recorded, and I'm hoping that by putting it on the internet, it'll be good for me. that's how exposure therapy works, right? D: on va voir?
As always, if it turns out you hate my reading style/speed (i read fast aahh), please read the original fic if you're able and inclined! It's the first xicheng fic I read that spoke to me, kind of like a speedrun of how I can picture things playing out post-canon. :D
