Chapter 24

After a quick training and a last match with Seungcheol in which Wonwoo found himself pinning the older against the floor waiting for him to give up he still couldn’t focus, his mind would either display the planning, making him wander on any single thing that could come up or betray him by bringing up the thought on heading back to argue and annoy Mingyu with what happened this morning yet that was the keyword “annoy”, he would only come out as annoying if he dared to bother him on the same day they were working on the ambush.

-Hey! I surrender… please let me go- he felt Seungcheol hitting over his arm around his neck making him realize he was leaving him out of breath

-Sorry- he apologized quickly letting him go -I just…-

-Don’t think too much about it- the older cut gaining a confused look from the younger who wasn’t sure what he was referring to -I wouldn’t have agreed if it wasn’t for Mingyu being so convinced on letting you join tonight but if you are going to keep this distracted maybe I should talk with him-

-No! I just wanted to consider any possibility before it is too late- he explained feeling quite guilty after knowing his friend didn’t want him to go and for sure his parents may be on the same track as him but as it was Mingyu’s choice none said a thing before, it always comes to this with the Alpha

-Well you still managed to win a match against me even if you were zoning out, please don’t tell any of the guys they will never let it go, so physically you are ready to go- Seungcheol reassure patting his back as he noticed the doubt in his eyes -Where are you planning to get the scent collar though?-

-I will probably check around I’m pretty sure there must be one around here- he explained knowing for sure he wouldn’t have time to head back and get the one Mingyu gave him gaining a nod from the older

-Does it work?- Seungcheol asked managing to imply the younger’s condition without mentioning it and it made him realize how he needed to look for an excuse to say he has tried it before

-Well… hopefully it does, you will tell me and if not it may as well just reduce it- he excused as if it was nothing but he knew the other will be worried until they tried it, thankfully he already knew it would work or at least he hoped Mingyu’s words from before weren’t a lie to reassure him

As they wander around the tech team asking for a scent collar he could see Seungcheol worry probably wondering what they will do if it didn’t work and Wonwoo couldn’t help but think if he would be either relieved or more worried if it didn’t, the fact of knowing Seungcheol didn't want him to go made his own insecurities rush back to his mind feeling guilty for worrying the people that cared for him yet again the challenge in Mingyu’s words, the meaningfulness between this whole act made him stood upright with his choices, they planned this, there was no way things could turn out badly but then again he couldn’t see the future. Yet the moment he tried the collar and Seungcheol’s smile faded the guilt build once more but turning back would bring more problems to their plan rather than his personal life and he was tired of being held down only for being an omega, he will show them he could do it and things would turn out perfectly… they will, there’s nothing we are not prepared for

o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o

The sun was setting as the vans head out towards the direction Mingyu indicated the facility was, they were meant to arrive there when only the moonlight would light the place, easier for their team to hide and probably the moment they least expected. Mingyu had observed them for a while now, enough to know when they would bring the suppressants, to know the type of guard they had and how close they could get without being found out.

They will arrive with six black vans similar to the ones they use to transport the suppressants in case they were seen to not bring any attention towards them, they were meant to park around the warehouse in a way to leave any angle visible for their teammates to be aware of any strange movement on the outside, anyone trying to scape or someone heading towards the warehouse, only three of the vans were full as their teams split that way.

The first one had the team which would make the first contact, they were meant to take care of the guards outside without making a huge fuss about it and pretending to be the actual guard afterward to not bring any suspicion allowing the next teams to follow without any stop, once they were set it was time for Mingyu’s and Seungcheol’s team to act up both going inside the building at the same time.

Seungcheol’s team was in charge of looking around the rooms Mingyu suspected they hide some of the hybrids, they were all suppositions, with the help of the knowledge Jeonghan and Joshua had over rumors from the city and Mingyu’s observation they reduce it to a certain amount of places to search and that’s where the empty vans came in hand, hopefully, if there were any hybrids held up there with Seungcheol’s personality in hand they will probably manage to calm them and allow to cooperate, without any sort of argument in between, for a way to be able to take them back to the district both for safety and see if there was a way to communicate what was going on to the other species, announce it to other places, make it know.

Meanwhile, Mingyu’s team will be heading into the deepest parts of the place looking for the chem, getting rid of the suppressants they would find, and searching for anything unusual. Their mission was the riskiest one considering they were ignorant of what they could find inside, of what those rooms could hide from them, and how secure things were, which is why it involved the strongest and most agile ones of their teammates if anything came up most of them were smart enough to think of a solution in seconds.

Missions like this were pretty weird by now yet for years their district remain loyal to the original training arguing that one would never know when it would come in handy which they were thankful for now as it was needed and even if it wasn’t, the best outcome was getting strong people inside the district for a territory fight which never happened, but one could never tell when one badly chosen alpha would make the decision to betray their agreement you could say it help to keep them prepared just in case.

Wonwoo looked back up smiling at the sight, some of the guys in the front sit were arguing over the radio volume one insisting on how this was his song and they should play it louder while the driver kept slapping his hand away insisting this was serious and they didn’t have time for this, Wonwoo couldn’t help but find it entertaining, he look around taking some time observing at the guys around him, at his teammates, most of them were chatting brightly about random things, he was amazed at how excited they were, how hopeful they seemed, a huge part of the guys were around Bohyuk’s age and some even younger and he couldn’t help but feel a little guilty at the fact that he barely knew the team he will be working with even more knowing they were here all ready to protect him as just another one of their teammates even if he was just an outsider, how they all trust this plan blindly and yet again the cloud inside his mind started to form again, if anything happened it will be all his fault, he couldn’t let that happen, he couldn't allow his teammates to get hurt, yet what could he do now? Nothing, you are useless

-Hey- he heard Seungcheol’s voice call him from the sit in front of him making him look back -don’t overthink much or I will lock you in the van and make you wait- he threatened yet the look on his face made it evident he was worried about him

-Sorry, I just…- he tried to explain but as he felt ashamed of his own thoughts, he hoped his hand movements were enough to make the mess in his mind known

-I get it, you always do this- he reassured smiling -everything will turn out just fine, plus we got the easy part, Mingyu’s team should be the one worried- he noticed Wonwoo’s face turn pale probably worrying over them now -sorry, awful choice of words but Gyu is with them and he can manage any type of emergency, he has truly matured these past years so even if you hate it you will have to trust him… just as he does with you now-

He knew the older was referring to his previous argument with Mingyu but he didn’t feel like digging into it by actually giving him an answer instead he only nod in agreement knowing that if he truly wanted to be trusted he should trust the younger too and Seungcheol was right he has noticed the little changes in Mingyu’s attitude and during the whole planning he would lie if he said he wasn’t surprised by the deep analysis he gave contributing on key points that made really important changes they will be fine, everything will turn out perfectly, we will be fine, he tried reassuring himself repeating Seungcheol’s words in his mind like a loop until a soft knock on the back door interrupting his thoughts.

-It’s time- or maybe not
