It really was late, probably a little past midnight and the skies were coated thick with clouds and no sign of the moon. It was so cold and silent. Most people were already in bed by now, sleeping without any care in the world.
A young man could also be found dozing on a lighthouse that previously served as his working space. Deep bags could be seen underneath his eyes from the complete and total lack of sleep. His skin looked pale, almost sickeningly so, while his long blue hair was tied rather messily in a simple high ponytail.
Khun was actually planning to get some work done when the stress and exhaustion of the past weeks finally hit him and he fell into light doze. However, the blunette could not have been sleeping for more than 30 minutes before a sudden loud wail woke him.
He immediately staggered to his feet, swaying a little at the sudden movement. He abandoned his lighthouse and ran quickly to the direction of the bed where the source of the loud cries was coming from.
Hastily Khun picked up a certain brown haired baby and began to gently rock him, ignoring the bout of dizziness he was currently experiencing due to being woken up all of sudden.
Vihan’s cries slowly died down as the rocking motion soothed him and the child fell back to sleep, and Khun was really thankful for that. Usually, it would take longer to calm the little brunette. Vihan was a lot more sensitive than his younger brother, Luan. The boy would wake up even at the slightest sound and would often have sudden bout of fevers that caused him to cry all night. So Khun always had to prepare the milk and be ready to calm the boy down before Vihan became more fussy and cried to the point of waking his twin.
Come to think of it…
The new father glanced to the bed and carefully watched as another baby, this one with fuzzy blue hair, was still sleeping peacefully—seemingly undisturbed by his crying twin nor the commotion around him.
He breathed out a sigh of relief.
It's good that Luan was not startled awake by Vihan's crying this time. Khun didn’t think he would be able to deal with it again if both of them started crying together like a few nights ago.
Last time, no matter what he did the twins would not stop crying.
He had tried to pick and rock them slowly in order to calm them down but it didn’t work.
He also tried to give them more blanket in case they were feeling cold but they still cried.
He tried to take off all blankets and extra clothing in case they were feeling too hot and suffocated but they started crying even louder.
He tried humming and even singing a few soothing lullaby that he remembered listening to but they still didn’t stop—!
At that moment, Khun felt like crying himself. He really didn’t know what to do anymore. It—he never felt so helpless and frustrated as the children's cries reached a whole new level.
He really could not do this anymore.
he asked, pleaded the two crying babies, his and that person's sons—
—please please stop crying.
Miraculously it worked.
The twins released small sniffles followed by hiccups before their crying slowly died down. Two pairs of tear filled eyes then looked at (and seemed to study) him before they finally finally quieted down and simply stared at their father in silence.
So Khun—defected son, traitor, light bearer, strategist—learned how to become a parent, a father, and had to adapt a new routine for his children. Instead of going over files and reports while looking for information using his light house like usual, the blue haired male now had to spend his day and night taking care of the two newborns. He didn’t really have any time for himself save for some brief moments where the babies would be sleeping without making any fuss. Sleep and bath had even become a luxury for him; he'd be extremely thankful if he managed to eat and take a bath without any interruption nowadays.
Gently, Khun placed the sleeping Vihan back on the bed. Luan, who seemed to recognize his brother's presence even in deep sleep, slowly turned his head to Vihan's direction and released a content sigh. The blunette smiled at the scene.
He still needed to look over the file in his light house tomorrow (or was it later today? He didn’t know what time it’s right now). And there was the mess in the kitchen that he needed to clean as soon as possible. There were also the piles of dirty clothes, diapers, baby wipes and everything that needed to be taken care of.
But Khun was tired, very very tired. He didn’t even remember the last time he had been able to sleep for more than an hour. Every time he closed his eyes and tried to rest there was always something that needed his attention.
He looked at the bed as well as the two small figures currently occupying it.
He was really tired. Surely it wouldn’t hurt if he joined them and get some rest?
Maybe just for a while.
He took a moment to turn off all the lights before climbing into the bed beside the soundly sleeping twins. Feeling comforted by their steady breathings and heartbeats, his eyes slowly closed down. Maybe, just maybe this time he could get a few hours sleep before the twins woke him up again with their crying fit.
Khun slowly slide closer to the two and drew them to his chest.
I cannot give you the star or even the moon. But I can give you my heart, my soul and my love.
Sleep well little ones.
