The Mystery of the Missing Shirt

Work Text:

She parted the vast curtains aside, allowing the bright rays of the sun and the clear, blue sky to brighten up her bedroom. The rays came into contact with her face, radiating its heat and uplifting spirit into her. A small smile forming on her lips, Daniela made her way over to her writing desk and sat down. Her journal for her blog was open with her pen in the middle; she had spent the past hour writing more of her adventures since her time traveling journey to the nineteenth century and the mansion she now called home.

She looked down at herself, taking note that the buttoned, collar shirt she was currently wearing was big on her. She brought her arm up to her face, taking a whiff of a familiar, faint masculine scent that lingered on the fabric. The smile on her lips slowly widened; she had to admit that the shirt looked better on her than it did of the man it belonged to.

Despite their rough start due to his playboy nature, Daniela never expected to fall in love with Arthur Conan Doyle, the well-known author of the Sherlock Holmes stories. To add a twist to their tale, he was brought back to life as a vampire alongside some other well-known names from history. She braved the troubles of the past memories that were still haunting him, helping him overcome that darkness and becoming his lover in the process. As a result, they also took cases, approaching them the way that Sherlock Holmes would.

She let out a small giggle as she remembered how she acquired his shirt. He had apparently left to do something in the early hours of the morning, and she took the opportunity to sneak into his room and steal it without leaving so much as even a small sliver of evidence to point him in her direction. It had been a wild goose chase for him all day, and she hoped to keep it up until the evening, at the very least.

Glancing to her left, Daniela took notice of a golden yellow glass bottle by her journal, and something clicked in her memory. That bottle was a bottle of perfume she had customized through a connection she managed to find when she was in town a couple weeks prior. She snatched the bottle from its spot, removed the lid and sprayed it on the back of her neck. She pressed the collar of the shirt against her nape, rubbing the liquid into the fabric. She then loosened the buttons and parted the fabric, exposing her chest and a little of her cleavage before spraying more of the perfume on the tops of her breasts and the valley between them, repeating the process of rubbing the liquid into the shirt. The sweet combination of honey and vanilla filled her nostrils, and the fact that it was now in her boyfriends’ shirt made the scent all the more sweeter.

She was about to button up the shirt and read the book she was currently on when a knock on her door interrupted her thoughts.

“Who is it?”

“It’s Sebastian. May I come in?”

She recognized the voice of the mansions’ butler and one of her closest confidants since her arrival.

“Just a minute. I’m not dressed.”

She stood up from her chair and loosened the remaining buttons, stripping out of the shirt and changing into one of her simple buttoned blouses and a frilly skirt. She threw the shirt on her bed before answering the door, her caramel brown eyes meeting a familiar pair of grey ones.

“Sorry about the wait. What did you need, Sebastian?”

“My apologies for interrupting, Dani, but I have to go into town to pick up some groceries for dinner tonight. Care to accompany me and give me a hand?”

“I don’t see why not,” she replied with a smile.

He peeked over her shoulder, taking notice of the shirt he knew was too big for her on her bed.

“Isn’t that Arthur’s?”

Her throat went dry; he figured it out fairly quickly.

“I’m not going to lie. It is,” she replied.

“He’s been looking for it since this morning,” he stated with a chuckle.

She had to cover her mouth to stifle the giggle that escaped her throat.

“Can you keep quiet about this for now?”

“If you help me with this favor, then yes.”

She nodded and walked with him out of the mansion, heading into town.

He breathed out a small sigh as he prepared himself a fresh cup of coffee after spending most of the day writing another Sherlock Holmes tale. The said tale had been inspired his own mystery of the shirt that went missing early this morning. He didn’t even recall asking for it to be washed or ironed, especially considering it was just cleaned a couple days prior.

To make matters worse, he didn’t have a single clue to go by as to who was the culprit responsible.

Taking a sip of the dark liquid in his cup, Arthur savored the bitter flavor while mulling over what his next scene should be. Considering where he was currently at, the next page or so would revolve around a bit of a wild goose chase.

His thoughts were interrupted by the mansions’ master, Comte de Saint-Germain.

“What do you need, le Comte?” he asked.

“I might need your help with something. Can you follow me to my chamber so we can talk about it?”

He nodded.

“Very well. I’ll be right there.”

He downed his coffee quickly before following the man who sired him out of the kitchen, still shrouded in mystery over the answers he still had yet to discover.

Daniela and Sebastian walked side by side in the center of town, the both of them carrying paper grocery bags. According to Sebastian, Napoleon ran short of some ingredients for the dinner he wanted to make tonight.

“Poor Napoleon. It’s a shame you didn’t come to me earlier. This would have been done already,” she said with a chuckle.

“He didn't realize it until the last minute,” Sebastian stated.

“Whatever he has planned for dinner, I'm betting it's going to be a good one.”

“Indeed. Getting off the subject, how have you and Arthur been doing, Dani?”

She felt her heart stop at the mention of her romantic relationship.

“I would say that it's going well so far,” she replied with a nod.

“That's good to know. He is a resident of that mansion and I do care for the both of you.

“If you don't mind my asking, why did you steal his shirt and make him run amok looking for it?”

She couldn't help the giggle that escaped her lips as she thought it over for a few seconds.

“I guess I wanted to give him a mystery to solve entirely on his own without any clues leading him to the culprit. In this case, that culprit is me.”

“Even without a lead, Arthur is pretty good at figuring out a mystery. I'm surprised he hasn't figured it out yet.”

Another chuckle escaped her lips.

“The fact that Arthur hasn't solved the mystery yet adds to the fun I’m currently having with him," she stated. "It does give me an opportunity to map out how it will end, depending on when he finally does solve it.”

“I encourage you to enjoy the fun while it lasts, Dani. Just make sure that you help Napoleon to make a wonderful dinner with everything we had to gather.”

Daniela looked at him and smiled.

“I intend to, Sebastian.”

Dinner had been lively thanks to the steak and crab feast that she helped Napoleon put together. The only disappointment she endured was the fact that Arthur wasn’t present. Thanks to a task he had to help Comte with, they would be back sometime later in the evening. Despite that, she enjoyed her meal and chatting with the other vampire men that resided in the mansion. As she finished up the last of her food, something clicked in her brain, and she smiled internally.

“Excuse me.”

She pushed her chair back and stood up, retreating to the kitchen where she found Sebastian.

“Sebastian, I would like to reserve la thermae for myself this evening, if it’s possible.”

The butler nodded and bowed to her.

“Of course, Dani. Would you like to keep it open for Arthur too when he returns?”

She felt her face heat up, and despite her throat suddenly going dry, she managed to nod her head in response. Regaining her composure, Daniela retreated up to her room, killing at least a couple of hours with some more writing and a little reading before stripping out of her clothes and changing into a robe. She looked at Arthur’s shirt, which was still on top of her bed, and she decided to leave it there. She had a feeling Arthur would come here to see her when he returned, and she considered it her confession.

If he wants to punish me, he can do so in la thermae. I have no objections to him having his wicked little way with me there. I had my fun today, and I don’t regret it.

With a smirk, Daniela grabbed a towel and left her room.

Arthur and le Comte ended up returning to the mansion a bit later in the evening. The task that le Comte asked Arthur to help him with took up more time than they both anticipated. As a result, Arthur had little time remaining in the day to figure out the mystery of his missing shirt. Breathing out a sigh, he ran his fingers through his hair as he followed the man who sired him inside.

“I apologize for taking up so much of your time, Arthur.”

“No worries, sir.”

“I’ll leave you to enjoy the rest of your evening. I’m sure Dani will be happy to see you if she’s still up at this hour.”

His mind lit up at the mention of his woman’s name. If anyone could lead him in the direction of his shirt, it would be her. Bidding le Comte farewell, he took off towards his beloved’s bedroom. When he arrived, he tapped on the door three times.

There was no answer, which caused him to raise a brow. Either she was asleep or she wasn’t in her chamber. The only way he would know for sure is by opening the door and seeing for himself.

With a deep breath, he opened the door, only to find that she wasn’t there at all. However, what really intrigued him was the fact that the shirt he was looking for was lying flat on her bed. Right then and there, he put two and two together.

My darling Dani, you not only knew, you were also the one responsible.

He approached the bed and picked up the shirt, only to catch a whiff of a sweet scent of perfume off the fabric. He brought the collar part up to his nose, identifying the scent as a combination of honey and vanilla. The scent carried on to the chest area, and he deduced that she had to have sprayed the perfume on those lush, supple breasts that he loved to tease and lavish.

A low growl tore from his throat, his lust for her burning within him like a raging inferno. If she wasn’t in her room, there was only one other place she would be at this hour: la thermae.

“Sir Arthur?”

He was snapped out of his thoughts by Sebastian’s call of his name.

“Ah, Sebas. I didn’t even see you there.”

“If you’re looking for Dani, she’s in la thermae. She reserved a spot for you too.”

Arthur was out the door with his shirt in hand before Sebastian could say another word.

I hope you had your fun, my dear Dani. Once I get in la thermae, I’ll get to have my fun.

She breathed out a moan that echoed slightly amongst the perimeter of la thermae as she washed herself under the spray of the warm water. Her long, wavy, caramel brown curls clung to her back, and her bangs clung to her brow. The steam gave the area a hazy atmosphere, adding the feel of mystery and intrigue. She had been here for quite some time, and as she thought about it, Daniela came to realize that there was no sign of Arthur yet.

Maybe his task with le Comte took longer than anticipated. I still have plenty of time. I don’t want to leave this place just yet when the water feels so damn good.

Another moan parted from her lips as the warm water dripped down her bare skin.

“Seems like I have work to do if the shower is bringing out those sweet moans I love to hear.”

She turned in the direction of the voice, finding the handsome face and the gorgeous sapphire eyes of Arthur.

“Did you enjoy the mystery I set you up for today?” she asked in a teasing tone, a small smirk forming on her lips.

Ah. She wanted to play dirty with that mystery. Two can play that game, my dear Dani.

“I’ll admit that I did enjoy it, and now, I plan on wrapping up this mystery now that I’ve caught the culprit.”

She didn’t miss the hint of lust in his tone as she watched him strip down to nothing. Despite having seen him naked a few times before, the sight never ceased to make her heart race. He wasted no time joining her under the spray of the shower and pinning her to the wall behind her. He brought both hands underneath her thighs, bringing them up to his waist. Daniela wrapped her arms around his shoulders to steady herself as he leaned forward and captured her lips in a needy, passionate kiss. She mewled into his mouth, her fingers tangling in his hair and her senses heading straight into overdrive.

Arthur kept his lips locked on hers for as long as he could allow before moving down to her neck. He kissed and sucked every inch of her throat, his fangs grazing the area where throat melded into shoulder and her collarbone. Although he wasn’t biting her, Daniela felt the ecstasy that came with a vampire’s bite, and she let out a moan while also arching her back.

“That’s right, my darling. Let me hear more of those sweet sounds. Let me see you come undone,” he purred against her skin.

He growled at the feel of her hardened nipples pressing against his muscular chest. Cupping one breast and teasingly twisting her nipple between his fingers, he lowered his head to her chest, and began kissing and nipping the swell of the breast receiving no attention. Her moans grew louder, but thankfully, the sound of the shower running drowned them out. He alternated between kneading, kissing and sucking each breast and nipple, the scent of honey and vanilla still lingering in his nostrils and driving him wild.

She gasped when she felt the tip of him pressing against her inner thigh, and she locked her feet around his waist, pressing her ankles into his back. Unable to deny her and himself any longer, Arthur pressed himself inside her, rocking her core as he sunk himself all the way to the hilt. He kissed his way back up to her neck, and he bit her most sensitive spot that emitted a keen moan resembling his name as he continued thrusting into her. Her walls tightened around his hard cock with each thrust, and she felt him growl against her skin right when she let out a cry that she was sure the water didn’t drown out as she convulsed around his cock and his seed flooded her tight channel.

The grip she had in his hair tightened as she began to relax, her breathing slowly steadying. He withdrew his fangs from where he bit her, licking the remaining blood from the puncture wounds with the tip of his tongue.

“And with that, the mystery is solved, my darling Dani.”

“You got your culprit, Arthur. Now that you’ve had your fun with her, what do you plan on doing now?”

She felt him smirk against her neck.

“The fun is just getting started, my love. There’s more where that came from.”
